Lyn I installed Office 2016 Home & Student edition last week. Everything was working fine and late last week every time I opened it there was a new update. It is now fully up to date after four days of updates, but today when I open Word it works for about 2 minutes and then crashes. No error report. Just shuts down. I have searched for a solution and tried everything suggested on the Microsoft Answers page – there was a suggestion changes to the Normal.dotm template (by adding words to the custom dictionary or defining Auto Text entries) made the program unstable – but even removing the Normal template did’t fix the problem.
The result was a downloaded installer package, which I then ran. After a little whirring and blinking, the installer ran and Office 2016 for Mac was on my Mac. Clicking Done resulted in the installer launching Word, with a nice blue intro screen. Then came the sign in screen. I dutifully typed in my email address and then cut and pasted my password. A prompt showed up asking if I wanted to use my Office account or my company account. That was, admittedly, a bit baffling because I bought Office Home edition, but hey, I'm tough, I can handle it.

When I started writing this story, I thought it was going to be a rant. Instead it's more testimony to unnecessary hassle.
Lotus Symphony and Excel existed at the same time on the Mac, and I would. I used the latest Outlook while it was in beta earlier this year - and to be quite honest. I preferred it over the Windows Outlook. I find the Windows Outlook to be just insane with the number of buttons, and the placement of them is not always logical. I have no idea why they put the send button to the left of the to/cc addresses, other than they might have had a spot there. Most western eyes naturally flow left to right, top to bottom, then back to the top. So the send button is the last place.
