The real problem though, in my opinion anyway, is that Apple screwed up. True, the spec says that an iphone headset will work as an external mic and that does indeed work, so they are OK by the 'letter of the law', as it were. BUT it would have been really easy for them to make this simple. Plus, they didn't even document how it works (I would be happy to eat those words if someone posts a spec explaining how to use an external mic with my macbook that actually tells you how to get the external mic recognized). I am an Apple user because I do a lot of music work on my computer, and to find out that connecting an external mic to my macbook pro is a big pain in the neck was a nasty surprise. I think Apple is more interested in the big bucks they make off mobile devices and have pretty much forgotten about us laptop and desktop users. Sorry for the rant, back to work.
